Maharajganj: Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone in medical education, with the number of MBBS seats doubling and 17 new medical colleges opened in this academic year. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, highlighting the state’s efforts to strengthen medical education.
The Chief Minister noted that Uttar Pradesh previously had only 18 medical colleges, but today, healthcare institutions have been established in 64 districts, according to a report by PTI.
He also highlighted the remarkable transformation in the state’s healthcare sector, recalling how BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, once considered a ‘bimaar’ (ill) state, now provides strong competition to the prestigious AIIMS Gorakhpur.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of KMC Medical College (PPP) in Maharajganj district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recalled that when he assumed office in 2017, the state faced financial challenges, struggling even to pay salaries. However, through teamwork and collective support, significant progress has been made.
He further highlighted the establishment of AIIMS in Gorakhpur and the launch of medical colleges in Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, and Pratapgarh.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that medical colleges would soon be established in the remaining 6-7 districts under a new policy, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the resolution of “One District, One Medical College.”
Criticizing previous governments for “neglecting” and “overlooking” the Terai districts, he emphasized that Maharajganj is no longer sidelined and is now a priority for development.
Adityanath also highlighted the government’s focus on ensuring good connectivity to the newly established medical colleges. Additionally, nursing and paramedical colleges are being developed across the state to strengthen the healthcare workforce and improve medical services.
