Role of the Medical Education Department
The Department of Medical Education in Uttar Pradesh plays a crucial role in developing skilled medical and paramedical personnel to meet the state’s healthcare needs. It oversees the establishment and maintenance of well-equipped teaching institutions, which serve as key referral centers for peripheral hospitals. Additionally, the department promotes medical research and ensures the availability of quality medical and dental education through various institutions across the state.
The Department of Medical Education was formally separated from the Department of Medical Health Services in 1981, with an independent directorate established in 1994. For the past 16 years, it has been functioning as a distinct entity, focusing on medical education, training, and healthcare services in Uttar Pradesh.
