The Supreme Court has rescheduled the hearing of the NEET PG 2024 result transparency case to January 21, 2025. Initially slated for January 8, the bench, led by Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih, announced the postponement and assured advocates the case would be taken up next week.
Despite requests from lawyers to prioritize the case due to concerns about potential student impact, the bench delayed the hearing. During proceedings on January 7, Justice Gavai remarked that a fresh round of counselling was unlikely. “If counselling is over, we will dispose of the matter. It’s not that we will order fresh counselling,” he stated.
The NEET PG 2024 Result Controversy surfaced after the results were declared on August 23, 2024. Students raised concerns about transparency in the examination process and questioned practices followed by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
Adding to the developments, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the National Medical Commission (NMC), recently reduced the qualifying percentile for NEET PG 2024. This adjustment broadens eligibility, bringing relief to aspirants.
Under the new rules, general and EWS candidates need a minimum of 15 percentile, while SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates must score at least 10 percentile. Previously, the cut-off was 50th percentile for general categories, 45th for PwD, and 40th for reserved categories.
The case continues to garner attention, with students and stakeholders awaiting resolution.
