NEET UG 2025: On Monday, February 3, the Supreme Court issued a notice regarding a petition filed by the National Medical Commission (NMC) challenging the Rajasthan High Court’s decision. The High Court had declined to intervene in the matter concerning the increase of medical seats at JIET Medical College, Jodhpur, from 50 to 100. The NMC’s plea seeks judicial review of the decision, arguing its regulatory authority over medical seat allotments.
A panel of Supreme Court judges, Justices Surya Kant and NK Singh, was reviewing a case about a Rajasthan High Court decision. The High Court had decided not to change an earlier ruling that allowed a medical college to increase its MBBS seats. Since the admission process had already started, the court chose not to interfere.
The Rajasthan High Court’s division bench, led by Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice Munnuri Lakshman, was reviewing an appeal from the Union of India, the National Medical Commission, and the Medical Assessment and Rating Board. The appeal challenged a single judge’s interim order that permitted JIET Medical College to increase its MBBS seats from 50 to 100
The court noted that despite the division bench’s directive for the single bench to resolve the matter within a month, the case remains pending. In response, the division bench has issued a notice, and the next hearing is scheduled for March 17.
