NEET UG 2025: The National Medical Council (NMC) has clarified the RTI on the eligibility of NIOS students in the NEET UG exam. In reply to an RTI query, the NMC said National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)/ State Open Schools or Private students are eligible for the exam. The NMC clarified through an RTI response that students can study an additional subject from NIOS at an authorized institution.
This statement came after the NTA released the NEET UG 2025 information bulletin. The NMC notice addressed confusion among students. The NMC said the NEET UG 2025 bulletin issued by NTA does not fully align with NMC regulations. The NMC said, “Students can study through NIOS and still appear for NEET UG under GMER-23 regulations”.
Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) condemned the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) rule that requires candidates to have Both Hands Intact for medical education. The court called this rule an act of “ableism” and said it goes against the principles of fairness and inclusivity enshrined in the Constitution of India.
