NEET UG 2025: NTA Adds New Rule for Tie-breaking, check details here

The NTA (National Testing Agency) has added a new tie-breaking rule for NEET 2025 exam in case two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in exam.

NEW DELHI: The NEET UG 2025 application process has started on 7 Feb, 2025, at the official website, www.neet.nta.nic.in. The last date to complete the application process is 7 March, 2025. The NEET 2025 exam date has also been announced, which is 4 May, 2025.

The NTA has added new rule to break ties in the NEET UG 2025 scores if the existing ones are not enough to arrive at a conclusion. In the NEET UG information bulletin, NTA said if a tie between candidates’ marks remains unresolved after the existing seven-point method, an independent expert committee will provide guidance and resolve it through a random process.

NEET UG 2025 tie-breaking rules

In case of two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET (UG) – 2025 the inter-se-merit shall be determined as follows:

  • Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,
  • Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry, followed by,
  • Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics, followed by,
  • Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects,
  • Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by
  • Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry, followed by
  • Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics, followed by
  • In case, a-g criteria are exhausted and tie still persists, it will be resolved through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.

If afore-mentioned seven criteria are exhausted and the tie still persists, NTA will resolve them through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.
