Jabalpur: The Madhya Pradesh government has assured the High Court that it will allocate 48 vacant NRI quota postgraduate medical seats to General category candidates based on merit during the final (mop-up) round of NEET-PG 2024 counselling. This decision came in response to a petition seeking the inclusion of these unfilled seats from private medical colleges into the General quota.
The petitioner argued that despite securing a competitive rank, she was denied a seat due to the blocked NRI quota seats, which were not offered in earlier counselling rounds. Allegations included the use of fictitious NRI candidates to hold these seats.
Citing Rule 14(A)(2) of the Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Admission Rules, 2018, the State’s counsel confirmed that any unfilled NRI seats must be reassigned to the General category based on merit and choice. Following this assurance, the petitioner withdrew the case, with the court emphasizing that the State is bound by its commitment.
