New Delhi: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has cut the NEET PG qualifying percentile for the 2024-25 session twice. The National Medical Commission (NMC) initially dropped the cutoff to 15 percentile for UR and 10 percentile for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD students. It was later dropped to the 5 percentile for all categories but ranks and percentiles were not altered.
Revised NEET PG Cutoff 2024
Category | First Reduction | Final Cutoff |
UR Candidates | 15 Percentile | 5 Percentile |
SC, ST, OBC, PwD | 10 Percentile | 5 Percentile |
Why Was the Cutoff Reduced?
Authorities cite doctor shortages and vacant PG seats as reasons behind the cutoff reduction. However, medical experts warn that lowering standards could affect the quality of healthcare and medical education in India.
Concerns Raised by Experts
- Lower Cutoff = Lower Competency → Unqualified students may enter specialized courses.
- Impact on Healthcare → Less skilled doctors could affect patient care.
- NEET PG as a Filter → Experts argue the exam ensures only capable doctors join PG programs.
