IMA-JDN Urges Reduction in NEET PG 2024 Cut-Off to Fill Vacant Medical Seats

With a significant number of postgraduate (PG) medical seats remaining vacant after the second round of NEET PG 2024 counselling for All India Quota (AIQ) seats, the Indian Medical Association-Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) has called for a reduction in the NEET PG 2024 cut-off marks.

In a letter to Health Minister JP Nadda, IMA-JDN highlighted the pressing concern that despite the efforts of the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and other authorities, many PG seats across the country are still unfilled. The association warned that this underutilization of critical educational resources could worsen the existing shortage of medical specialists, ultimately impacting the quality of healthcare services in India.

Why Reduce NEET PG 2024 Cut-Off?

IMA-JDN presented the following reasons to justify their demand:

  1. Optimal Utilization of Resources: Lowering the cut-off would help fill vacant seats, ensuring valuable medical education resources are not wasted.
  2. Providing Aspirants a Second Chance: A reduced cut-off would enable more eligible candidates to secure admission, fostering talent and addressing career aspirations.
  3. Addressing the Specialist Shortage: Filling these seats would help mitigate the growing gap between the demand for healthcare specialists and their availability, strengthening India’s medical workforce.

The association urged the government and relevant authorities to act promptly, emphasizing that lowering the cut-off would benefit the healthcare system and support the nation’s goal of improving healthcare delivery.

IMA-JDN expressed hope that this issue would be resolved soon, ensuring a productive outcome for aspiring doctors and the medical community at large.
