Delhi High Court Reduces NEET PG 2024 Cut-Off Percentile for MD, MS, DNB Admissions; Counselling Updates Soon

The Delhi High Court has approved reducing the cut-off percentile for NEET PG 2024 admissions to MD, MS, and DNB courses in upcoming rounds.

The Delhi High Court has directed a reduction in the cut-off percentile for NEET PG 2024 counselling following a petition by medical students requesting relaxation of the current cut-off criteria. During the court proceedings, the Union of India informed the court that the competent authority had approved the cut-off reduction, with specific numbers to be announced soon.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will set the revised cut-offs and begin round 3 counselling promptly. In the meantime, MCC extended the All India Round 2 resignation deadline to January 8, 2025, at 6 PM, to accommodate states like Telangana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, which are yet to declare their round 2 results.

The earlier official notice stated, “Candidates can resign Round-1 and Round-2 seats with forfeiture of the security deposit for PG Counselling 2024 until 6:00 PM on January 8, 2025.”

NEET PG Counselling 2024: Steps for Cut-off Reduction Implementation

  1. MoHFW Directive: MoHFW instructs NMC to implement reduced cut-offs.
  2. NBE Announcement: NBE announces revised cut-off figures.
  3. Revised Schedule: Updated counselling schedules for All India and State levels are released.
  4. Round 3 Update: MCC revises Round 3 schedule and opens fresh registrations for eligible candidates.
  5. Counselling Process: Counselling proceeds as per the updated timeline.

Updates Expected After Court Order

Although All India NEET PG Counselling 2024 has been delayed, states like Uttar Pradesh and Goa have already announced their schedules. These states are expected to adjust their resignation deadlines and counselling schedules to align with the revised All India counselling timetable.

“We expect all states to modify their Round 2 resignation deadlines and counselling schedules as per the updated All India and State timelines. Once the NMC or MCC publishes the revised schedules, states will communicate the changes. If any state currently has ongoing processes, candidates should proceed as scheduled,” said Brijesh Sutaria, a medical education activist.

Earlier, the Indian Medical Association-Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) wrote to Health Minister JP Nadda, highlighting that many PG seats remain vacant despite the NBE’s efforts. IMA-JDN urged the government to lower the NEET PG 2024 cut-off marks, enabling more candidates to fill the vacant seats and strengthening India’s healthcare system.

Last year, the health ministry revised the NEET PG cut-off for PG medical admissions to 0 percentile. However, this decision faced criticism from physicians, medical societies, and medical students, who denounced the move.
