National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) is a publicly funded premier institute of higher learning for engineering, science, and technology and was established in the year of 1967. Initially, the college was named as Regional Engineering College Silchar but has been transformed and upgraded to National Institute of Technology, Silchar with the status of Deemed University on 28th June 2002.
NIT Silchar is situated at Cachar, Silchar, Assam. The college is one of the very few premier technical Colleges in Northeastern India. The Government of India declared the Institute as an Institute of National Importance by enacting the National Institutes of Technology Act 2007.
